In April 2003 a tragic, single-car accident took the lives of OLRCB members - Julie Foerstler and her two children, Matthew (age 12) and Amanda (age 9) in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Julie Forestler's passion had been organizing Oregon Youth Royalty competitions, an activity in which she herself had participated in her youth. Julie's untimely and tragic passing meant that she never saw the fruition of her efforts.
Julie's long-time friend and fellow OLRCB member, Muriel Keyes, established the Foerstler Fund with surviving spouse and father, Kevin Forestler's blessings in honor of Julie, Matthew and Amanda, to make it possible for OLRCB Youth members to have the opportunity, through Foerstler Fund Scholarship monies, to participate in both state and national Youth Royalty contests. Oregon is the ONLY state that provides scholarship funds for youth members to participate at the state level as well as contests held in conjunction with the ARBA National Convention.
Original trustees of the Fund were Muriel Keyes, Karyn Fegles, Penny Deggelman, Linda Eubank and Ann Goodman. The Fund lives on today and is able to do so solely through donations from OLRCB members and others within the rabbit and cavy community. Foerstler Fund trustees are fully committed to the precept that as as long as there is at least ONE OLRCB Youth member with the desire to participate in state and/or national Youth Royalty Competitions, they will be there to help make that desire a reality!
